| People are concerned about a proposal to assess and collect taxes from properties located within an expanded University District Business Improvement Area (UD-BIA). Persons signing this "grass-roots" petition want the Seattle City Council to reject or re-think this. |
This map diagram was extracted from public materials submitted to the
Seattle City Council and is also available at the
District Partnership web site

Background: A recently formed organization, the University District Partnership, drew up a new UD-BIA proposal.
If it is approved by the City Council, additional yearly taxes on assessable properties within the "U District Fund" boundary will be used to fund the UDP's business plan.
(Boundaries are from the Ship Canal to Ravenna Blvd; 15th Ave. NE to I-5.)
If organized in a fair and reasonable manner the UD-BIA could be an asset to the whole community; however, as it is currently structured, the UDP's BIA proposal is severely flawed. For instance:
I therefore join with other concerned community members in asking the Seattle City Council to defer taking action on the UD-BIA proposal until it can be revised in a manner that addresses the above-stated flaws and community concerns.
